Q: lexapro? ?
I have taken lexapro for three nights only. I dont like the way it makes me feel and it has made me terribly sick so I want to stop taking it. I know it is a medication you are supossed to wean off of but do I need to do that after only 3 days?
Thanks

A: I have been taking lexapro for three weeks now. I have not felt sick I don’t think that after only three nights you need to worry about weaning yourself off of it. Tell your Dr. about these side effects.

Q: Lexapro? ?
Can I take immodium while on lexapro?
Also, is alcohol ok to have with it?

A: Your doctor or pharmacist can tell you if Immodium is okay to take with Lexapro. I would guess it is okay – but it’s better to be safe.

Alcohol very occasionally, and then only one or two drinks. On your prescription bottle of Lexapro there should be warnings about “do not drink alcohol with this medication”. Alcohol is a depressant – and nullifies the effects of the Lexapro. Also, Lexapro will amplify the effects of the alcohol – meaning you will get intoxicated more quickly.

Q: LEXAPRO!………………?
what would happen if i took 3 tablets of lexapro at 10mg ea?…

A: not much at all.

Q: Lexapro helped my depression and social anxiety a bit but not all the way, could Paxil work better?
Also, I had some difficulty getting an erection while on Lexapro. Is it possible this symptom would not occur on Paxil?

A: paxil works very well for social anxiety but you will most likely have the same problem with getting an erection.

Q: Whats the difference between Lexapro and Citalopram?
I have been on Lexapro for about three years now but last month my insurance decided to switch me to Citalopram (which i believe to be the generic form but really I have know idea). Is there a difference between these two drugs? I’m asking this because for some reason for about the last month, I’ve been feeling panicky. At first I thought it may be a mental thing but really I didnt even think about the generic drug thing until yesterday.

P.S. – The whole reason I’m on Lexapro/Citalopram is to treat panic attacks.

A: Citalopram was Celexa. Lexapro (escitalopram) is one of its breakdown products.

1) One needs to take twice the dose of citalopram to match the strength of escitalopram. Someone on 10 mg of Lexapro needs 20 mg of Celexa to match for strength.

2) Generic meds are often trash, and result in much lower body blood levels, even after matched by dose with the brand name drug.

3) Although chemically related, some people respond well to one, and have no response to the other.

You should review the changes with your doctor. If increasing doses does not help, the doctor should call up the insurance company to get you back on Lexapro. They will refuse because they care only about money, not about health. The doctor might have to use curse words and threats to get you what you need, stay on the phone for an hour.

I hope you appreciate that.

Q: How long after stop taking Lexapro can I expect to lose weight?
Took Lexapro for 1 year; gained 30 pounds; work out 6 days week/ went off Lexapro March 1st, 07; still work out and eat right; can’t lose or budge scale; any suggestions? How long does it take?

A: It might take a year for the body’s metabolism to recover. Consider having your thyroid checked.

Q: What is the danger associated with mixing Lexapro and alcohol?
There are indications on Lexapro prescription bottles, and on the Lexapro website that you should “avoid” mixing it with alcohol. What are the specific reasons for this indication?

A: No real “danger”. The reason not to use them together is that Lexapro is an anti-depressant and Alcohol is labeled as a Depressant. While you can get an initial up feeling while drinking, the down feeling is lower than if you hadn’t drank.

The two cancel out each other

Q: Is Lexapro more effective for anxiety if taken in the morning before I start my day??
I’ve been taking 10mg of Lexapro daily for about a month now for anxiety. It has really helped. I’m just wondering if it is more effective if I take it in the morning before my day starts? It says on the package to take it with or without food anytime of the day. I take it in the evening to prevent side effects which I have yet to seen. Should I start taking it in the morning?

A: If u feel it is helping u at the moment just keep taking it in the evening. I would assume it doesn’t matter when u take it as long as it’s once a day.

Q: How and why does Lexapro work for Migraine Associated Vertigo?
Since I have been taking Lexapro for a while, my MAV has been doing much better but I have no idea how or why the Lexapro works for my MAV so well. Does anyone here know?
I am not interested in discussing other drugs for MAV, but only about how and why Lexapro works for MAV.

A: Migraines, and all variations of it, are purely psychogenic. They are caused by suppressed aggression. Generally, people who get migraines are sweet natured people who wouldn’t hurt a fly, but all humans have aggressive impulses. There is no way to eliminate them, but aggression always has to express itself somehow, and if an aggressive urge can’t be gratified by attacking another person, it turns inward. It’s like wishing to hit someone on the head, but since this is prohibited by ones own conscience, the only head a truly peaceable person can hit is his own. Thus the migraine. Any vertigo associated with the migraine is symbolic dizzyness from a symbolic punch.

The way Lexapro works for migraines is simply that it mellows out the afflicted’s internal psyche. Marijuana generally works wonders on migraines for the same reason. Psychotherapy works in some instances, but in my humble opinion it is better to keep the migraines and stay sweet natured.

Q: How much Lexapro will it take to have the same affect as 3 adderalls?
It usually takes 3 adderalls for me to feel something and im currently taking 1 pill of lexapro but it doesnt do anything. I’m just wondering how much i have to take until it feels like 3 pills of adderall.

A: Lexapro doesn’t work like that. Its a pill for depression that takes a few weeks for the body to respond to. I don’t know if you are taking it to get high, but it doesn’t work like that. If its for depression it may take a few weeks for you to feel the effects taking it on a daily basis.

Q: How long will it take for Lexapro to leave my system?
I was on 10mg of Lexapro for 4 days but it made me sick. 2 days ago i switched to Zoloft, but am still feeling nausous. How long will it take for Lexapro to get out of my blood?

A: Actually it may not be the Lexapro causing the nausea. I have taken both meds and I distinctly remember the Zoloft making my stomach feel upset for the first couple of weeks that I took it. It is normal for it to happen and it should be fairly mild, not severe. The feeling should go away after about 2 weeks. Your body will get used to the Zoloft. Good luck to you. I hope the Zoloft works for you.

I have many many years of experience with anxiety disorder. I have been prescribed every anti-depressant and SSRI you can imagine.

Q: How long does it take for lexapro to work?
I have been on Celexa for about 4 weeks but asked my doctor to change my prescription. I didnt feel like doing anything on Celexa and insomnia was insane and I love to sleep. Does anyone know if lexapro is better or can anyone tell me their experience with Lexapro?

A: They are both SSRI’s, they don’t help with depression, at least for me. They have plenty of side effects though.

Q: How to discontinue lexapro and side effects question?
Hello everyone

I’ve been taking Lexapro 10mg for about 5 months and am kind of uncomfortable about the fact that I am taking this med.

I wanted to ask if this medicine effects your memory in any way. Has anyone heard of this side effect of Lexapro?

Secondly, because of the fact that my doctor got angry at me after I asked if I could quit, I thought i would give the internet community a try.

How does one quit Lexapro healthily? Please share some of your experiences.

It would be great help if the community can answer these 2 questions.

Thank you.

A: I just came off mine cold turkey. I had No side effects, but Im not saying u wont. Good Luck

Q: How long do Lexapro withdrawl symptoms last?
I’ve tapered off Lexapro and the side effects are killing me! I feel fine as far as depression and anxiety are concerned, but the physical symptoms are awlful – dizziness, nausea, nightmares, night sweats, strange tingling in my face and head . . .

A: The general rule on psychotropic / Antidepressant medication is two weeks in, two weeks out. It takes to weeks for it to enter and leave the system.

Good luck!

Q: How long does it take to lose Lexapro weight?
I have taken Lexapro for 1.5 years and gained 30lbs. If I keep going to the gym 5 days a week and really watch what I eat how long will it take to lose the weight? Has anyone stopped taking Lexapro or another SSRI?

No smart @$$ answers please.
